The most important difference is that Internet Marketing is still new, so in almost all cases your competition is not doing it very well. This means if you do it well you’ll have a distinct advantage.

Other differences are also important:

  1. Traditional Marketing tries to reach your prospects by broadcasting your message to the masses, but it’s expensive and always many are missed.  Internet Marketing, on the other hand, talks to your prospects one at a time when they’re ready to buy, and has unlimited potential reach.
  2. Traditional Marketing tries to control what prospects think about your products.  But on the internet it’s your customers who control what your prospects think.  We can never under estimate the amount of influence one customer can have on your sales, either positive or negative.

At the same time Internet Marketing is still Marketing, so there are many similarities. These points are true both in Internet Marketing and Traditional Marketing:

  1. Find out what people want, then make it as easy as possible for them to buy.
  2. It’s best to be first. If you’re not first, be better. If you’re not better, be different.
  3. Always be positive.
  4. Good looking products sell better.
  5. All of your communication tools should look similar.  It gives each more impact.
  6. People like to be associated with successful products and successful people.
  7. Give people reasons to believe you, such as testimonials, credentials, or impressive statistics.
  8. Be friendly. People like to buy from their friends.
  9. It’s easier to sell to people who’ve already bought from you.
  10. Always have a call to action.
