    1. Have a professional-looking design
      People decide instantly from the look of your website whether or not you will give them products of value and good service. It’s proven that good-looking products sell better.
    2. Tell people what you do and where you do it
      This is the first thing people want to see when they come to your website. They want to make sure they’re in the right place, and they don’t want to waste 20 minutes looking through your site only to find you don’t provide the service they want or don’t provide it in their area.
    3. Say why they should do business with you
      People are in such a hurry these days that if you don’t hook their attention right away, they’re gone. You have to put your best foot forward, you have to tell them the most important reasons to deal with you right on your homepage, and you have to display them clearly.
    4. Say why they should trust you
      This information can be incorporated into your design, perhaps into the header and footer. It can be logos from the BBB or associations you belong to, a guarantee crest if you offer one, testimonials, how many customers you’ve served, how long you’ve been in business or links to a privacy page that explains how you safeguard any information they give you.
    5. Give something of value for free
      To convert them from visitors into leads, you need to communicate with them directly. To do that, you need their names and contact information. Have a simple form right on your homepage that they have to fill out in order to get whatever you’re giving them for free.
    6. What to give
      You need to understand your customers in order to know what would interest them enough to give you their contact information. It could be a free consultation, a free service, a free sample or information that they can’t get easily somewhere else.
    7. Nurture them until they’re ready to buy
      Most people don’t buy the first time they have an opportunity. They have to get to know you. The fact that people have found your website is a good indication that you can communicate with them by email. An automatic system that sends out a series of well-written emails at prearranged intervals is an effective, cost-efficient way to help them get to know you over time and be there when they’re ready to buy. Include:

      • their names and any information they’ve given you in appropriate places
      • information they will feel is valuable
      • a polite invitation to take action.
